Can We Drink Too Much?

I am all puffy. Bad. The weather warms up and I swell up. I tried drinking a lot to make it go down. How much? Almost six quarts of water and a quart of Crystal Light.

Too much fluid? The funny thing is... All the drinking I am doing I am not peeing as much as I thought I should be. *sigh* Getting on my scale should be fun...

Can one drink too much? Is there a point where your bod just says, "Screw it! If she is going to give it to me, I am going to hang on to it and make her swell up like a scared puffer fish!"

This sucks. I am tired of being puffy. Seriously. Enough is efuckingnuff, already!

Okay, that is all. I just needed to cry and complain a bit. Now, I am going to head to bed. I am tired.

Goodnight. :D

  1. Well, there are conditions where when a person drinks too much - even water - it actually flushes out the electrolytes!
So, yeah!? But it may or may not be what's causing the bloating, eh?
Hope a good night's sleep did some magic fixing for you -
    And you feel much better!

  2. Agreed-- you actually CAN drink yourself ill, but I think it takes A LOT to do that.
How about trying to use some natural diuretic foods?
Water w/ lemon juice? Asparagus? Grapefruit?
These are all diuretics and may help shift the fluid.

Also: I don't want to be scary, but if you're noticing any kind of swelling in your legs and you put your finger in and poke and the poke mark doesn't go away, but stays sunken ('pitting edema')-- make an appointment with your primary doctor to get yourself a check up, you may need some medication to help balance your system out.
    good luck!!

  3. I don't have an answer to your question, Erika but I think I would be speaking to the doctor again about the water retention. There might be a maximum allowance for someone who retains water the way you do. I hope you get some answers soon. Hugs. :)

  5. I agree with Karen and Dinnerland that this is something that should be looked into. You've had a much worse time of water retention than most women I see in real life. In print and on screen, there's a whole slew of numbers which show a tendency to heart disease from this kind of on/off gain/lose water thing you're getting.

It's probably nothing, or something simple, such as sodium intake coupled with the body of a woman (ah, the benefits of being a "chick!"). But for peace of mind, just do it, okay? Because some of us are getting very worried about you. I hope you read Allen's blog entry a few hours ago. I almost believe you triggered it, now that I think about it.
