Is diet soda evil?
Is coffee evil?
Is caffeine really the devil when it comes to weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight and body?
Honestly, I don't believe so. Especially if these substances are consumed in moderation. Like anything else, say sugar, carbs, meat, pasta, potatoes or rice, they can be a part of an overall healthy diet, provided that you are not in some way allergic or sensitive to them and they wreak havoc on your system.
Personally, I don't seem to have any of these sensitivities, so I enjoy things like a diet soda now and again. I have two cups of coffee in the morning. Every morning. I refuse to give up my coffee! lol I consume small amounts of HFCS in a few things that make me happy, like my lo cal salad spray. It is small quantities so I am not going to drive myself insane over it. I have a little white potato or rice, here and there. I don't eat them daily or in large quantities.
Like everything else I am faced with, I am trying to learn moderation, control and restraint. Self respect in the form of nourishing and cherishing my health, not abusing my body. And yes, letting food sometimes be not just fuel but pleasure. Healthy pleasure. Not a drug or form of self abuse.
It is a process. One in which I am beginning to make real progress. I certainly don't have it locked down, yet.
But I am getting there.
In other news, we did our two miles last night. I think it is about time to begin adding more distance and time to my walks. I feel about ready. :D
I think I am in for a major head storm. I have been having a brief, blessed low pain period but it is about to come to a crashing halt. I have been haloing like crazy, this morning and I am not liking light so much, right now. All my blinds are drawn. Joy. Nothing like migraines and humidity (which I hate!) to make a girl's day. Time to grin and bear it. :D
Okay, I think I will go thaw some shrimp to go with my salad for lunch. I'll talk at you all, later.

Oh God - I had 168 migraines last year so I know your pain...please take care.
ReplyDeleteOh my that must be hard to deal with. Get some rest and hope it goes away.
ReplyDeleteUgggh migraines....oh the are the devil!!
ReplyDeleteModeration is the key!! Take care, get some rest and enjoy your weekend!!
Great post, I love the paragraph about moderation, control, and restraint. That's exactly what I am working on and I certainly believe in "everything in moderation". Sorry about the migraine, hope you are feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteI hope that the migraines go away!
ReplyDeleteI still have my coffee every day and my coke Zero. That is 'treat' while giving up all of my bad food habits. I know what to put and not put in my system. My problem is not wanting to do it!
As a food addict...I must learn moderation-so having one can of Coke Zero and toning down my intake of coffee is a step in the right direction. I just can't see going cold turkey right now.
It is a long road!
I completely agree, I refuse to give up my coffee as well. You have to have something.
ReplyDeleteI agree - I need coffee.
ReplyDeleteI also love the idea that you are looking at the big picture of improving your choices and health instead of being obsessive.
Sorry about the migraine. Hope all is well.
You know I get the migraines too. They are no fun at all. It is funny how I categorize headaches into regular and migraine. I get so many headaches but there is a definite difference. Just not fun.
ReplyDeleteI think moderation is a great thing. That way you can have your cake and eat it too as long as it's a small slice.
